As the leaves begin to change and the air turns crisp, we are excited to welcome you to a fun-filled and festive October at Riverside! This month is packed with exciting events and opportunities to come together as a school community.

We’re kicking things off with our biggest fundraiser of the year—the Harvest Hustle Fun Run! This event is always a highlight for students and families alike, and we’re so grateful for your continued support in helping us raise funds for important school programs and activities. Your participation makes a big difference!

We’re also looking forward to Parent-Teacher Conferences this month. These meetings are a valuable chance to connect with your child’s teacher, celebrate progress, and set goals for the months ahead. We appreciate your partnership in supporting student growth and success.

Please join us in cheering on our amazing 5th and 6th grade girls as they compete in their upcoming basketball games! Their dedication and teamwork are inspiring, and we are proud of all they’ve accomplished.

We’ll wrap up the month with our beloved Harvest Parties, and with Halloween falling on a Saturday this year, we’re extra excited for a fun and festive end to the month. Games and classroom celebrations are sure to bring smiles all around!

Additionally this month, we are excited to share that Riverside is beginning the Riverside Falcon Accessible Playground Project. We are diving into a fundraising project with the hopes of installing an inclusive playground designed for students with a wide range of physical, sensory, social, and developmental needs. Please be sure to read details in our Building Updates section below.

Our custodial staff does so much for us! We are so appreciative of Mr. Toby, Ms. Martha, Mr. Awot and Mr. Basil. School Custodian Appreciation Day is on Friday, October 2nd. 

We are so fortunate to have Mrs. Laurino as our instructional coach at Riverside this year. We appreciate all that she does for us. Help us celebrate her on Tuesday, October 6th. 

On Wednesday, October 7th, it is National Walk or Roll to school day. We encourage our students and families to enjoy a stroll to and from school this day.

The Riverside Harvest Hustle will be on Thursday, October 8th from 9:30-12:30pm. This is a fun student- led fundraiser for our school! The day of the “race” students will run around the path in the field with their grade for 20 minutes. The reason the Riverside Harvest Hustle is important is that it’s a combination of raising money for educational support at Riverside AND it’s a school/community event. Grandparents, aunts, uncles and parents are encouraged to come to school during the event to cheer on and encourage their student(s). Staff and students are encouraged to head outside and cheer on and support buddies/friends/other students.

We will have our Fall book fair during the week of the Parent-Teacher Conferences, October 12th - 15th. The book fair will be brought to us by Idaho Book Fairs. Students may make purchases during their scheduled library class that week or shop during the after school conferences on Wednesday October 14th from 4pm - 6:30pm and Thursday October 15th from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm. Students may hangout in the book fair with Mrs. del Campo during their parents conference time if it falls during the book fair hours.

Encouraging and supporting a love for reading helps children develop in many ways, including cognitive, social, and emotional skills. Our library receives 30% of the sales proceeds from the book fair. The money is used to purchase library books and supplies. Thank you for your purchases and supporting the love of reading.

Our character trait/Riverside Value this quarter was Kindness. Students will be voting, as a class, to nominate one classmate as the recipient of their classroom kindness award. We will be celebrating the receiving students at a school wide assembly on Wednesday, October 14th.

Parent Teacher Conferences will be Wednesday, October 14th (evening) & Thursday, October 15th (all day). These meetings are a valuable chance to connect with your child’s teacher, celebrate progress, and set goals for the months ahead. We appreciate your partnership in supporting student growth and success. There will be no school for students on Thursday, October 15th and Friday, October 16th.

If you have not already, please be sure to read all about our move to Standards Based Reporting and what it looks like at Riverside. We ask that all parents read & watch the resources in this link prior to conferences so that conference time can be focused on your student's progress and growth.

Riverside is excited to celebrate the season! Teachers will have harvest parties and students are able to dress up in their costumes (only at the end of the day) on Friday, October 30th! Please be sure to review each bullet point for details. If students do not wish to dress up, the front office will have festive necklaces, headbands, etc. available.

Costumes worn at school (during the time of 3:00-3:40pm) must be school appropriate. If they do not meet the following guidelines, students should not wear that particular costume while at school.

***Students are responsible for making sure their complete costume makes it home at the end of the day***

Riverside Elementary is launching a community-wide effort to replace our aging playground with a new ADA-accessible, inclusive playground designed for students with a wide range of physical, sensory, social, and developmental needs. This project is more than new equipment, it is an investment in belonging and in making sure every child has meaningful opportunities to play, connect, move, and participate.

The project will transform one of the existing playgrounds into a safe, welcoming, and accessible space that can be enjoyed by all students and celebrated by the entire community. 

This is not simply a Riverside project. It is an opportunity for our community to demonstrate what happens when we come together to create a place where every child can play.

The Boise Independent School District is committed to creating and maintaining school environments in which the emotional and physical safety of students, staff, families and others are a priority. Schools cannot ignore ANY threat of violence. When threat making behaviors occur, schools initiate a process called a Threat Assessment.

Each school has a threat assessment team that is multidisciplinary. The team will include an administrator, school psychologist and school counselor; in certain situations, the team may be expanded to include a social worker, teacher, school nurse and School Resource Officer (SRO).
